Over the past few months David has befriended a nice man named "Red"
Dave and Red became fast friends Dave taught him about the church and Red taught Dave to fly. Dave has been up with Red several times in his plane, Red has been flying planes his whole life.
Last night Dave worked real Late (2a.m.) Red came into shop and was begging Dave to fly with him and his 2 friends to see a new plane he had purchased in Concrete WA. any other time he would have gone in a heart beat but he had a car that really needed to get out. Dave and Gary were planning on working on the new plane for Red.
The airport is right across the street from the shop so Red is at the shop often just watching Dave work or just chatting they also would go out to lunch or dinner together since they are both night owls.
We received word this morning that Reds plane went down last night around 10p.m. the story follows. It is such a disheartening feeling to be so sad and so thankful. We have lost Red but the Lord spared David.Our hearts and prayers are with Reds family we will miss him dearly.
CONCRETE, Wash. -- One person was killed and two others were were injured when a small plane crashed about 10 miles west of Concrete on Wednesday night, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Skagit County deputies said the plane crashed in a wooded area of the Birdsview community near Russell Road at just after 10 p.m., killing the pilot. Skagit County Deputy Coroner Bob Clark identified him as 71-year-old Wayne L. Smith of Bellevue, but neighbors say he went by "Red."
Federal Aviation Administration officials said there were three people were on board at the time. The two passengers who were injured -- a 46-year-old Sequim man and 43-year-old Seattle woman -- were taken to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. They were listed in satisfactory condition Thursday.
More investigators arrived Thursday morning, and officials expected to be on scene throughout the day collecting evidence to help determine what caused the plane to go down.
Skagit County Sheriff Chief Criminal Deputy Will Reichardt said the plane took off from the Concrete airport just before the crash, and was headed for somewhere in the Seattle or King County area.
The FAA said the plane is a Stinson 108 built in 1946 and registered to a Bellevue address.

Stacie and David, my heart is breaking for you and the loss of your friend. I am thankful that David was not on the flight. We love you and we miss you.
Wow.... I really don't know what to say. So thankful Dave didn't go on that flight. It's amazing how quickly our lives could have been changed forever. So sorry for the loss of your friend. I'm sure Dave and Red will have fond memories of each other forever. And to think that Dave was able to share the gospel with him before his death has to give you an element of peace. We can be so thankful for the spirit and for directing our lives in ways that we sometimes don't know the outcomes.
What a heartbreaking story...we will be thinking/praying for you and those involved.
So sad, I know Red really loved to fly and to share his passion with those around him. I also know Dave had became really good friends with him so our heart goes out to him and for the loss of a friend. Despite the obvious mourning in time of death, we know everything happens for a reason and I'm sure Dave had the opportunity to plant that vital seed in the whole missionary process of sharing the Gospel which is commendable on his part and for setting a good example. I have a feeling that Reds death isn't the end of his and Daves friendship.
